BEAR SUMMARY FOR THE BOW VALLEY
(Banff National Park East Gate to Bow Valley Provincial Park)

For the Period: October 9 to 15, 2015

Welcome to the ongoing weekly bear reports for 2015.

Bear Activity Trends

There was only a single bear sighting this week in the Bow Valley in the Bow River Channel East Zone. This may be a result of less recreational use i.e. less people around to report bears and the fact that some bears are starting to den up. Having said that, there are still bears out and people should continue to be aware of their surroundings as they move about the valley.

Hunting season has begun so be on the lookout for animal remains left from successful hunts that could attract bears and other animals.

Maps indicating the zone locations referenced in these bear summary reports can be viewed via the following link:  www.wildsmart.ca/news/zones-reference-maps/.

We are interested in your feedback related to these weekly summaries.  If you have comments please let us know – it helps to make the information of greater value.  If you would like to provide feedback, you can take the quick survey below.

BEARS CAN BE ENCOUNTERED ANYWHERE, ANYTIME!

Be aware of your surroundings, know how to reduce the likelihood of encounters and be prepared should an encounter take place. Always use caution by paying attention to signs of bear activity such as scats, tracks, and digging. Make lots of noise while hiking; hike in groups when possible; carry bear spray; and obey warnings and closures.

The above summary is based upon a compilation of bear information provided by government agencies and unconfirmed sightings reported by the public over the last week. It is not intended to be used as a real time, complete record of where bears are in the valley.

Important Note:

Please do not use the comment box to report sightings of wildlife.
